Open/Clothes
In the city center of Rome, Italy, the level of density is astounding. Within the small backstreets and some major pedestrian paths through the old city, there exist a number of passages between the upper floors of buildings. These 'bridges' begin to segment the public space of the street and the private courtyards of houses or groups of houses.
Open/Clothes proposes a version of these 'bridges' between buildings that allows for the tenants of the building to increase or decrease the degree of privacy of their internal courtyard by moving the cloth panels from open to close. The extended space of the tenants' apartments can be used as space for relaxing, gardening, and clothes drying.
