Self-Help Study Enhancer
The problem: Without knowing the project brief, we were asked to pick six random objects. Once the objects were chosen, we were tasked with using the six objects to create a Rube Goldberg inspired "deliriously rational and functional machine", using all six objects. The objects I chose: a Nintendo controller, a book, a soda can, a bell, a hand-powered drill, and a pencil.
The Self Help Study Enhancer:In a world of PlayStation, Internet, television and the Sims, students' study habits are rapidly deteriorating. On a weekly average, the American student watches 50 hours of television and studies for 10. The Self-Help Study Enhancer implements a study-reward system that allows students to set themselves a reading goal, which when completed rewards them with a beverage.
One simply inserts a textbook into the metal holder, clips the frame to the 'goal page' and reads. Once the student has completed their reading goal, the machine activates and opens the beverage of the student's choice. The Self-Help Study Enhancer is also perfect for late nights when a Pepsi caffeine boost is needed. As an added bonus, the Self-Help Study Enhancer acts as a portable desk, with storage space for all of your books, stationary and drinks.
